Yeah. It's a derogatory term, but she's reclaiming it.

I think? She may just like calling herself a bitch.

I suppose as long as she chooses it...

It's just that I'm not very used to hearing that word.

Yeah, well. You may have noticed already, but Lup is the kind of person who does what she wants.

I can't say the same: it got flung around a lot on the ship.

(But mostly by Lup and Taako, and not for derogatory reasons, so. Silver lining.)

She seems like a lot of fun though.

She really is.

I can't imagine what the energy would have been like if she and Taako and Magnus weren't along for the ride with us. They certainly made things more exciting.

In a way, yeah. I don't regret it though; I didn't really know how to have fun before them.

Too focused on your studies?

Yes. They used to all go out in teams to look for the light, or explore, but I preferred staying back at the ship to write.

(Beverly's smiling at her phone - she can picture that perfectly.)

You seem to have found more of a balance, now.

(She started to come out of her shell a lot more after the cycle she spent alone, so in a way balance found her? But she doesn't resent it.)

Yes, I think so. I mean, look at me now. Able to talk to cute girls without breaking a sweat.

What is the rest of your crew like? I talk about mine often enough.

Well, there's about a thousand of them so I don't know that I can go into *everyone* but...

I've told you a little about Jean-Luc, haven't I?

[scholiast]

A little, yes! But I wouldn't mind knowing more.

[dancingmd]

(Good. Maybe it'll be easier to write about him than to talk about him.)

He's more than my captain - he's one of my oldest friends and Jack's best friend. They served on a ship called the Stargazer together. It was Jean-Luc's first command and

(Her fingers hover uncertainly above her phone. No doubt Lucretia is getting a series of ellipses on her end, assuring her that Beverly is still there, still writing. Eventually the rest of the sentence will come.)

When Jack died, Jean-Luc was there. He's the one who brought him home to Wesley and me.

Oh, Beverly. I'm so sorry.

(She can't even imagine how hard that must have been for the both of them. She wishes she were nearby, if only so she could take Beverly's hands in her own and hold them tight.)

I'm glad somebody was able to bring him back to you and Wesley.

He's a good man. One of the best I know: brilliant, too, and compassionate, even if he is a little too stuff and serious sometimes!

I wish he could meet him, knowing you think so highly of him! Maybe some day.

Maybe. Though as much as I want to see him, I don't know how he would handle being here.

I know what you mean. I can't imagine my captain being here: it would probably drive him crazy.
