INBOX text / audio / video / action Hi, Lucretia speaking. I'm busy at the moment, but if you'd like to leave a message, I'll get back to you ASAP. art creditcode credit
[His momentum doesn't stop as he talks to her—he continues this conversation as he's well on his way into the kitchen, pulling glasses from the cabinets and mixing up drinks for the both of them. He rushes back to meet Lucretia and hand off her drink.]
What stupid movies are on the agenda tonight?
[..................He's trying very, very, very, very hard to be happy.]
I'll have you know I am always ready Magnus Burnsides, especially for this.
(She takes the drink with a smile, and pats the space next to her on the couch. They are going to drink, and watch movies, and maybe later she'll check if he wants to talk.)
I was thinking Stand by Me.
(Nothing with romance in it, just to be safe? She can tell he's trying very hard to keep everything cheerful; she isn't sure how fragile everything is right now.)
[He pops a squat on the couch, cross-legged and close enough to Lucretia that he's not leaning on her per se, but still making contact. What personal space.]
Sounds great! Haven't seen that one!
[Holding off on talking until after the movie's over is a very good idea. He'll probably offer up annoying commentary and quips throughout. More distractions.]
(Personal space never existed on the Starblaster. Lucretia leans against him, and clicks her glass against his customarily. A quick mage hand brings the whiskey and cola over toward them should they need a refill, and then she turns the film on.
It's pretty easy to watch. It's lost boy-esque in a way she thinks Magnus will appreciate, and he does at least make some pretty bad jokes that have Lucretia snorting into her glass more than once. By the time the credits start to roll she's graduated to leaning back against the arm of the couch with her legs over Magnus' lap, and she glances at him, curious as she finishes off her third drink.)

[Later, Magnus comes through Lucretia's door with a bottle of whiskey in one hand and cola in the other. He raises them both in her direction.]
Just like old times!
[He actually seems, like, really excited to get crunk and watch movies. It's a far cry from the mopey series of texts he'd sent earlier.]

Just like old times.
(He's got whiskey and cola, as she knew he would. She hasn't had whiskey in ages, good grief.) You ready for this?

Hmm. Thoughts?

First of all, [he says, pointing a mock-accusatory finger at Lucretia,] you said we were gonna watch a stupid movie. That was a good movie. Second...
[He drops the 'tude and sighs.] Thanks for the movie. I needed it.

(Y'know, because it's a real boy's boy movie, or whatever. Lucretia grins, and sits up a little, retracting her legs from Magnus' space.)
But I know what you mean. And of course; circumstances aside, this is a tradition that absolutely needed to come back.

[...Okay, alright. It had gone unspoken that they would talk about Taako after the movie, so.]
I mean, I'm not like, devastated. It's just... [He rolls his eyes at himself as he talks. What a dumb thing to be upset about.] A bummer. Y'know.

(Her expression softens as he starts to talk; she reaches out to scrub her hand through his hair affectionately.)
Yeah, I getcha. It's okay to be sad about it Magnus, it isn't– uh, stupid, or pointless or anything. You feel what you feel.
no subject
You’re supposed to say that. You’re my mom.
[A sigh.] It just feels—I feel like I should get over it. I mean, I will get over it. It's not a big deal. But I should already be over it.
no subject
And don't you forget it.
(If he's gonna be that way, she can be that way too!!)
You were over it, but you've brought it back up. Give yourself time. Like you said, you'll get over it.

[It's true—he seems satisfied by the amount of whining he's done tonight.]
Don't let me take up the whole night talking about my problems, though. How's Lucretia doin'?
no subject
That's okay. You can always come over here to whine, Magnus.
And Lucretia's doin' great actually, all things considered.
no subject
[Wink.]
What's new in Lucretia's world?
