(And then she laughs, a sudden burst of sound.)

That's what you're worried about? You're ridiculous. Don't worry Lup, all major crunk sessions are put on official hold until you're back in a body.

[umbrastaff]

[She loves that laugh, and it makes her go off as well. Snickering, she covers her face with her bony hands and shakes her head.]

I'm so lucky I have friends like you that will hold off getting fucked until I can join in again!

[It's easier to make jokes. Thank you, Lucretia.]

[scholiast]

Possibly the only friend like me, because I cannot speak for Taako and Magnus; they may go and get fucked with or without us.

(She's laughing too, dissolving into giggles as Lup is set off. It's so strange, seeing her laugh in that form. She has no mouth to convey the emotion with, yet her shoulders shake, and she still makes the right sound.)

Maggie wouldn't get up in it without his best weed gal, that's for sure. I'll just have to sit around Taako and hope I can get like, a contact high.

[She smiles at Lucretia again, floating to look at her book selection]

I picked a good month to get spooky, didn't I? Sometimes I think this place does things like this on purpose.

No kidding. You don't look too out of place with what's been happening lately around here.

(The book selection is still a work in progress: there's three journals there, filled and bound neatly (the fourth is a quarter-full and resides in her bag), and a lot of books about magic. There's novels Beverly has loaned her and little books of poetry. Lucretia watches Lup study them curiously.)

Have you been seeing ghosts, Lup?

I know, right? Most people just ignore me, which is kind of a relief despite the fucking insult?

[Better to be ignored than met with rage or fear.

Lup looks over the journals with a little smile, and then picks up a novel with mage hand.]

...weirdly enough, I haven't. I mean, I've seen other people's ghosts and I'm kind of annoyed that Barry decided to haunt my brother, but considering he's bringing out all his elementary school drama points it's probably for the best.

[She flips through the book a little.]

No personal ghosts, though. Maybe because I am one?

[scholiast]

(Oh. Her expression softens while Lup flips through the novel.)

Are you worried that they'll fear you?

(That's rough. Hopefully they can get her body back as soon as possible; it must be so hard to go without.)

Yeah, I was wondering about that because I notice that Taako's been having a particularly rough time of it. Maybe he got your share of the ghosts too?

(She chuckles.) You know, I was just telling him that the ones following me having been talking and yet: here you are.

I already freaked out Rin so bad that he looked ready to stab me.

[She sounds rather flippant about it, which was an obvious cue to it bothering her.

Lup stops at a page, eyes it a bit and then puts the book back.]

Maybe? I mean, he doesn't have any that would bother me personally, so I think I'm just safe since I'm pretty much the queen of the dead right now.

[She floats over and hangs over Lucretia with a smile.]

Am I your personal ghost, Luce? Maybe I am? Maybe I went home and this is just an echo of me, come to judge your book choices.

[scholiast]

Rin freaked out?

(Surely he would be more knowledgeable about liches than most? Lucretia frowns.) How come?

(She can tell it's bothering her, so she's gonna attempt to make Lup open up about it. She grins fleetingly when Lup comes floating over, craning her neck to spot which book Lup had put back on the shelf.)

I think you are the personal ghost of all of us, (she teases,) and judge all you want because that is not my book. I'm just borrowing it.

[umbrastaff]

Yeah. I... don't really blame him, but he got freaked out, then he got mad that I was there for him freaking out? Then defensive... and mad again when I explained that Barry is a necromancer. I think he's got something personal going on there.

[She shrugs and floats a little higher so she can be over Lucretia like a cloud.]

I kinda dig that title. 'Lup, Personal Ghost'. Also fifteen moneys on you getting them from Bevvy.

[scholiast]

Wow, alright. (INTERESTING. HIGHLY INTERESTING.) I don't think I've ever seen him be anything other than annoyingly playful before.

(So she does: a little red cloud. Lucretia reaches up to poke her through the midriff.)

I shall make you business cards. Also fifteen– who are you even betting with? Of course they're from Beverly.

[umbrastaff]

It was pretty interesting, even if i feel kinda bad. I like it when he schmoozes for me.

[She's laughing at the 'tickling', sticking out an illusory fire tongue in return.]

Awesome. I'll hold you too that. [She grins again.] Awww, it's so cuuuute I'd throw up from sap if I had a stomach.

[scholiast]

Well I don't, so maybe you can tell him you'll take my share of the schmooze.

(Lucretia chuckles, and gives her another ineffectual prod.)

Hey, you've had your disgusting couple time. Now it's my turn.

[umbrastaff]

Duly noted.

[She gives Lucretia a ghostly thumbs up - and then prods back with mage hand, because she's such an adult.]

Okay, that's fair. At least you're not stuck on a small ship with your bae.

[Please stop teaching her modern words.]

(Bae... as in 'Baeverly', or...???? If true, it is extremely bad.)

Mmmm... (Lucretia hums, frowning.) Three out of ten. I've heard worse from you.

[umbrastaff]

(She chuckles.) I just said that you've had worse, dummy. You can come back from a three, I believe in you.

True, I can't help that our chronicler isn't up to date with the new lingo!

[She grins and whips up her phone with mage hand to show Lucretia Riverview's version of Urban Dictionary.]

[scholiast]

(She sticks her tongue out at Lup, then takes the phone to scroll through the definition, her brow furrowed.)

Oh. Okay.

(She sighs, and hands it back.) She's– I mean, she's not my bae, Lup. If it truly does stand for 'before anyone else', then you are my bae. All of you are. You are all my baes.

[umbrastaff]

Shit, Luce. You're gonna make me cry from sappiness.

[Her smile softens.]

I think we're kinda in a group of our own, right? Baeeftipre. Before anyone else except for the IPRE.

[scholiast]

Eugh, don't cry.

(She's smiling though, pleased with herself.)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I... it's a hard thing to explain. The connection, I mean.

[Lup floats closer, but instead she just 'leans' to Lucretia.]

Family is one, but it's more? Soulmates is a good word.

[scholiast]

Soulmates feels... (she gestures vaguely, then makes a face,) romantic, I guess?

I know it can be platonic, but I've always associated it with romance novels.

Hmmm, you're right.

[She shrugs again.]

Family works for me. We never had one ourselves, so we obviously picked the best.
